About Us
H. Harvey Cohen founded Error Analysis, Inc. His work in human factors significantly advanced its application in claims and litigation, most notably in the areas of occupational safety and personal injury. He received a Ph.D. in Human Factors/Ergonomics from North Carolina State University in 1972 and was awarded a doctoral research fellowship with NASA at the Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. Dr. Cohen later became a senior research scientist with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in Cincinnati, Ohio prior to forming his own human factors and safety research and consulting firms, which later became Error Analysis, Inc. His research in part has served as the basis for several federal regulations and standards governing safety in the United States.
A fellow of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (U.S.), Dr. Cohen is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (U.K.). Dr. Cohen is founding director of the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics. He has written over 150 peer-reviewed scientific publications in the human factors and safety fields as well as five books and dozens of book chapters. During his forty-plus year career, he investigated over 7,500 serious injury or property damage incidents across North America and in several pacific rim territories.
Dr. Cohen retired from professional practice but continues his service as a volunteer. His son, Joseph Cohen, assumed the role of principal at Error Analysis in 2017.
